Relationship with God

We had a very interesting discussion during Yesterday's fellowship on the topic "How is our Prayer Life? what are the hindrances to it?" Well most of the folks vouched its themselves who have become hinderances to their Prayer life which I suppose all of us would agree to. Few thought provoking points that came up in the discussion are 1.Love towards God is not in us. We do not love him as we love our family. 'coz if we love him we would definitely spend time with him, talk to him voluntarily, live as per his teachings. But are we? Are we giving the priority that he deserves. Are we starting the day with him? 2.We become more ritualized over time. We start Prayer life with a bang say for eg:morning Prayers.But after a period of time we do not Pray with the exact involvement. Our body wakes up 'coz its clock is set that way to wake up early, automatically it recites the Prayer that was taught Eg: sing, Praise, read Bible, Pray for Nation/God's people/others/us. We do it correctly but we would have noticed that it was performed not with the involvement of spirit. It was done as a custom or a habit that we got used to 3.Allowing external disturbances. We ourselves allow external disturbances like TV /Mobile calls/People/work in our Prayer life. All these if we determine to manage we can spend the same time what we wanted in Prayer. Eg: I missed my evening bible reading yesterday 'coz was held up with some office task @ home. If I think over again I could have completed that in office itself. There was no good reason to bring it home other than time spent on other non-priority tasks. When there are issues I spend lot of time in Prayers and Bible Reading but when am happy I do not act the same way. I am becoming a hindrance to God's love here. Its that I do not maintain the commitment or relationship with God. More like treating him not as a relation though call him Father. "Always Stay connected with God".

    I agree with what you have written, Reni. As Paul says in his epistle to Romans 7:15 " I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.". This is what we do currently. We discuss more on current affairs, simply worldly talks rather kneeling or Bible meditation. The basic mistake we ourselves know and that need to be corrected. Hope God will help us and bless us to keep the vertical(with God)and horizontal(with neighbors) relationship in tact so that we present ourselves before Him when He comes in the cloud.

Utter Confusion!

"They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  But you keep your head in all situations" (2 Tim 4:4,5) I am an ardent fan of John the Baptist. There is no harm in admiring him because all who started as John's fans became Jesus' followers.
